Household Mag.

My name is Hailey Marie Andresen. I grew up in Northern California and met my husband Zack while I was attending high school in Phoenix. After graduating, we moved to Los Angeles together so I could study fashion design at FIDM and then back to Phoenix so Zack could finish his English literature degree from ASU. After moving back to Phoenix we got married and made plans to start our family. In the process of trying to conceive we got the itch to move to NYC. Coincidentally Zack landed a job interview the day I found out I was pregnant. So, we packed our bags (literally, that's all we brought) and headed to east in March of 2015. This September we celebrated Owen's first birthday and couldn't be happier to call Brooklyn our borough. I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work from home as a content manager for a digital marketing company. I spend my days juggling work, Household and taking care of Owen.

I started Household Mag. in July of 2015 as a journal and creative outlet as I awaited my first child and built our nest in Brooklyn. Since launching the blog just over a year ago it has grown and expanded into a business I would have never imagined this time last year. I have had the opportunity to build relationships with brands I admire, have met a handful of friends, opened the Household Shop and this past month Zack and I launched a parenting podcast (Mom and Dad Made a Podcast). While I have a lot on my plate, I know I can't do it all. Amy Frances has been by my side since the beginning helping me build the Household brand and photographing every step along the way. Hire her. I'm serious.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE ON STARTING A BLOG?

While I don't have all the answers, I'm recently put together my top ten tips for starting and running a blog. Read them here!

HOW DO YOU JUGGLE IT ALL? DO YOU SLEEP?

Yes, I sleep! While working from home with a toddler can be challenging, I wouldn't have it any other way. Here are a few tips that have especially helped me!

HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR BLOG?

Household Mag. is a for-profit blog. I create sponsored posts, collaborate with brands, host giveaways, and every now and then generate income from affiliate links and banner advertising. I take extra special care to only work with brands I believe in and I never accept payment for a positive review I wouldn't otherwise write. All projects of this nature will always be noted at the end of each post.

CAN I BE A CONTRIBUTOR TO HOUSEHOLD?

At this time I am not taking on any written contributions. I do however feature spaces, brands and coming soon (people) I find inspiring. Visit our contact page for more information on the best way to reach out.

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?

While I personally use a CANON EOS M3 for most of my Instagram photos and the occasional blog post, the majority of the images you see on the site are taken by Amy Frances. If you're in the NY area and would like a lesson on how to better use your camera sign up for Amy's Documented Workshop mailing list. Our next one will be this February in Park Slope!

HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?

I'M VISITING BROOKLYN, WHERE SHOULD I GO?
